South Carolina History
South Carolina was founded in 1663 by eight english men and with a royal charter given to them by King Charles ll. South Carolina was founded because at the time south carolina was part of the original Province of Carolina. At the time province included North and South Carolina. North and South Carolina didn't become royal countries until 1729.

South carolina belongs to the Southern reigon. South carolina belongs to the royal government, which means that a colont is ruled or administerd by officals oppointed by and responsible to the regning soveregin of the parent state. There is not much about the region, thre is somewhat a difference with the other region. New England has a different religon and so does the Middle colony (region)

Common professions or jobs were silver smiths, glass makers, and needle makers. Many people learned to trade there there own household items. Many silver smiths created sugar bowls , jewlery , and coins. Glass making was introduced in the middle of the 1700s. Needle workers was done by women. They usually made blankets , clothing and even carpets. Furniture making was also a common profession as well. Furniture was very heavy in that colonial times but became lighter in the 1700s. Other professions were baskets makers, brick makers, blacksmiths , carpenters , gunsmith , millers , printers , shoemakers , wheelwrights and wigmakers. There are many more jobs around 1663 - 1700s. |
Since farming vwas very unsuccessful in South Carolina, settlers had to find a new way to make a living . They began capture Native Americans and started to sell them as slaves to many other colonies and in the West Indians island. By the time it was 1700s , the colonist discovered that rice and indigo grew very well in this land. Those two good prosperse, making the farmer very rich or wealthy . Black slaves from Africa became the primary source of labor. |
The daily life in South Carolina was not only for fun but many of the crafts were used for daily life as well. Playing music and dancing were many hobbies , colonist did. The Violin and French horn was a main instrument people played and children were taught at a young age. Back then the colonial life in South Carolina was full of culture. People that lived in Charleston were either wealthy, extravagant homes, going to shows at the theatre , and attending large balls. The frontier people lived there life very different from the low country people. They live communally and had to work very hard to make a living.

The fashion in South Carolina was usually all hand-made in the household and passed down from sibling to sibling . For an average settler, their clothes were usually neutral colors mainly because they couldnt afford the expenssive and fancy fabric. Another reason for the dull and boring colors was the common religous belif . Toddlers often wore a brace around there body to help them sit up straight. Both boys and girls wore long gowns and a cap until the age of five or six. After boys wore stockings , garters, doublets , brownshows , points , hats and always tucked in their shirts. Basically what men wore , robes and felt hats.

Charleston was the main town where people built their homes. This town is one of the more popular towns. This town is one of the longest and diverse of any community. They grew wealthy through the export of the rice and, later sea island cotton. This town, Charlestown is where nmainly colonish lived.

There was a single government of the Carolinas based in Charleston until 1712. In 1719, the crown purchased the South Carolina colony from the absentee from the Lord Propreitors and oppointed Royal Govners. The government of the colony was created through the Fundemental Constitution of Carolina. This colony was known for religous freedom.

There was only three main religous groups. The first group were the French Huguenots.The second groupwere the Anlicans and the final group were th Dissenters from the church of England, called the conformits. There was an established Anglican in South Carolina but, there was a lot of religous diversity. By the time 1680, they created the independent or circular church in Charleston. A little after the Hugenots or also kown as the colony 1680. Shortly after the swiss and german Lutherans followed in 1730.
